Practice on live work Finish the packet on one live piece of work you already named.
What you’ll be able to do Identify the practical implication of “Practice on live work” and apply it to one live DHS decision connected to DHS Equity Analysis Toolkit. Compare the responses to this question and explain your choice: When should the method be used? Document a next step for Practice on live work: Choose one live work object, name a change or formal escalation, assign an owner, and set the date the result will be reviewed. The course ends when one live packet names who is harmed, who benefits, and who is accountable — before the lock.
From evidence to ordinary work You now have a definition of the toolkit, a pattern for the skip, a chair test for “everyone,” two frames, and the eight-step loop. This lesson turns that into the one piece of work you named in lesson 1 — not a sample from another unit.
In this lesson Finish or repair one live packet.
Practice a repair that does not make Equity staff the author of your miss.
Set a seven-day practice transfer.
Know the job aid and the formal doors you must not skip.
If you cannot name who is harmed and who benefits, you are not done.
The intro, to take with you Three approaches, used together Fix the next packet Apply the job aid to the work you named. Short lines. Groups. Design change. Dates. Small and complete.
Fix one template The unit’s decision memo or leadership cover. If it cannot hold groups, a burden, and an owner, every future packet will be a cover sheet.
Fix the culture tell If “we’ll monitor” is the applause line, interrupt it. If a blank toolkit is praised as on time, stop praising it.
Repair without theater You will have shipped a cover sheet. Repair is: name the miss, name the groups, change the design or the date, put owners on the calendar, sit with the equity director, and skip the speech that makes them comfort you. “We should have named who pays before the vote. We are naming it now. We can still change the launch.”
Apply this — this week Finish steps 1–8 on the work you named in lesson 1 — or repair the packet that already moved.
Sit with your equity director or committee before the next approval date.
Put the three accountability dates on a real calendar, with names.
Tell your team that a blank toolkit is not the applause line — then follow it when Friday is inconvenient.
Sort these practice moves Name three groups and one design change on a live packet.
