Practice on live work Take this back to one person you already serve.
What you’ll be able to do Identify the practical implication of “Practice on live work” and apply it to one live DHS decision connected to Brain Injury and Complex Disability. Compare the responses to this question and explain your choice: What should happen before the work is locked? Document a next step for Practice on live work: Choose one live work object, name a change or formal escalation, assign an owner, and set the date the result will be reviewed. The course ends when one no-show note that outlived the injury gets a method — or comes off.
From evidence to ordinary work You now have a definition of invisible injury, a pattern for how we quiz and shrink, a chair test, two frames, and a six-move loop. This lesson turns that into one person you already serve — not a special “brain injury project.”
In this lesson Choose one person and run the chair test.
Practice a repair that does not blame them for our quiz.
Set a seven-day practice transfer.
Know the job aid and the formal doors you must not skip.
If we quiz them on what they should remember, we did not assess. We shamed.
Lesson 1, to take with you Three approaches, used together Fix the next meeting Apply the job aid to one person. Ask energy, paper, shorten, write, stack, review. Small and complete.
Fix one template The unit’s review agenda. If the template starts with paper in their hands instead of a quiz, every future meeting inherits the method.
Fix the culture tell If people who no-show are called unmotivated, interrupt it. If a long meeting is praised as thorough, stop praising it. Culture is what gets applause.
Return to the sidewalk. The question is whether the people we serve get this kind of hour before we congratulate ourselves for a full two-hour meeting.
Repair without theater You will have written no-show as character. Repair is: name the miss, offer a shorter visit now, put last time on paper, write the next step in their hands, change the agenda so energy comes before the quiz, and skip the speech that makes them manage your embarrassment. “We should have written this down months ago. I am writing it now. You can say stop. We will come back on a date we name.”
Seven-day list Pick one person you would usually quiz or mark as a no-show. Write a half-page: this week’s energy, what last time actually was, what “unmotivated” is doing in the file.
Offer a shorter visit and put last time on paper — or schedule that access now.
Write one next step they can take with them. If you cannot, the plan is not in their week.
Tell your team that a long meeting is not the applause line — then follow it when the first short visit is inconvenient.
Sort these practice moves Put last visit on paper instead of opening with a quiz.
Choose a category Do this week Use a formal path Do not do Report suspected maltreatment instead of handling it as a house issue.

Choose a category Do this week Use a formal path Do not do Check matches Reset “They seemed fine” is often “I did not look long enough to see the battery.”
Lesson 2, to take with you What to do next Open the Pace-and-Write Job Aid and keep it beside your next review. This course is original One DHS instructional content for staff practice. For maltreatment, licensing, medical orders, BI Waiver eligibility, and Tribal consultation, use those formal doors. This is not a substitute for them.
Put this lesson to work What you can change You control whether practice on live work changes a live DHS process connected to Brain Injury and Complex Disability or remains information on a page.
What to watch for The team completes the learning, keeps the same default, assigns no owner, and never checks who carries the burden.
Your next step Choose one live work object, name a change or formal escalation, assign an owner, and set the date the result will be reviewed.
