What Acceptance is — and is not Deep noticing. Not agreement with every claim. Not a ranking. Not yet Adaptation.
What you’ll be able to do Identify the practical implication of “What Acceptance is — and is not” and apply it to one live DHS decision connected to Acceptance in DHS Work. Compare the responses to this question and explain your choice: How should the team use the concept? Document a next step for What Acceptance is — and is not: Choose one live work object, name a change or formal escalation, assign an owner, and set the date the result will be reviewed. Acceptance is a way of looking. It is not a personality. It is not a loyalty test.
A work definition On the continuum, Acceptance is an orientation in which difference is seen as real and complex, and people can hold more than one cultural frame without needing everyone to be “basically the same.” In DHS work, we use a plain-language version:
You can name who a process was built for, and who it was not, without ranking colleagues and without pretending the process is universal.
Acceptance is not Not Minimization
Minimization says difference is mostly surface; the same rule is fairness. Acceptance says the same rule can still sort people.
Not Polarization
Polarization makes difference a contest: us/them, woke/not, evolved/behind. Acceptance refuses the ranking.
Not Adaptation yet
You can notice the English-only after-hours line and still ship it. That is Acceptance without a shift. Incomplete — and still a real step.
Not a score
This course will not tell you your stage. You practice a habit. You choose the next course.
Acceptance can hear a hard sentence about impact without turning it into a character trial — of you or of them.
