Leadership · Access
Lead access on purpose — in meetings, hiring, communications, and everyday DHS work.
35–45 minutes · 6 lessons · Voluntary learning

Accessibility is a leadership job, not a specialist's leftover task.
Civil-rights history that puts access on the leader’s desk.
The four doors leaders open or close every week.
Universal design and individual accommodation are both leadership work.
A repeatable method: plan, check, consult, repair.
Take this back to a real meeting this week.
Open one upcoming meeting, document, video, form, or public message. Identify the barrier that can be prevented now, assign the leader who owns the change, and set a date to verify that people could participate.
Accessibility is not a side task. At the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the people who set the agenda, choose the tools, and run the meeting decide whether staff and the public can actually take part. This course is a practice guide for leaders and supervisors across every administration. You will learn what you own, what to build in before anyone asks, when to call Equal Opportunity and Access, and how to repair a miss without shifting blame onto the person who needed access.
If you control the time, the tools, or the talk — you control access.
Use this aid while applying Accessibility as Leadership Responsibility to a live DHS work object.
Open one upcoming meeting, document, video, form, or public message. Identify the barrier that can be prevented now, assign the leader who owns the change, and set a date to verify that people could participate.
Participation and course completion in this program do not count toward DHS-required training credits unless management, a director, or DHS leadership expressly approves an exception.
Effective communication, reasonable modification, program access.
Reasonable accommodation in hiring, on the job, and in benefits.
Equal treatment, complaint process, auxiliary aids, EOAD contact.
State civil-rights law; 2026 interactive-process clarification.
Unjustified isolation as discrimination — community living frame for DHS.
Culturally and linguistically appropriate services.
Disability nondiscrimination for federal-fund recipients.
Practical bar for digital access.
